Joe established his long career as a hard worker beginning as a photographer for local night clubs in San Antonio, as well as the local popular restaurant, Mi Tierras.

Joe took pictures at these establishments every day, so the attendees could commemorate their social gatherings on film. Later, Joe changed gears career-wise by briefly working as a laborer in construction; eventually becoming a welder for Alamo Iron Works but continued working part-time as a private investigator as well as working security at Mi Tierras Mexican Restaurant.

Joe ran his cab company for the next 32 years. He eventually sold off the business but continued to drive his own cab 7 days a week until he retired at age On a personal level, Joe loved to dance, rode a motorcycle, appeared in a movie, and was an avid lover of eating raw chilies. He loved family gatherings, giving hugs instead of just handshakes and spoiling his grandchildren. Joe went to church everyday to light a candle and prayed for everybody.
